A New Era for Women’s Health—Let’s Celebrate this Perimenopause Win!
Today we raise a glass (of your beverage of choice ladies!) to a major milestone in women’s health: the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the removal of the longstanding “black box warning” from many hormone-based therapies used to treat menopause symptoms (Associated Press, 2025).

Why This Matters
For decades, women who considered hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to ease hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and other menopausal shifts were often met with alarming warnings about increased risks of stroke, heart attack, dementia, and cancer (Washington Post, 2025).
This change marks a turning point. The science has caught up with lived experience—and the conversation can finally move from fear and restraint to empowerment and informed choice.
What Changed
The black box warning—the FDA’s most stringent—will be removed for many estrogen and progesterone therapies used for menopausal symptoms (Reuters, 2025).
Updated labeling will still include clear information and tailored guidance, especially for women with unique risk factors, but the prominent “black box” fear-based label is being replaced with more nuanced and evidence-informed messaging (Washington Post, 2025).
The FDA now acknowledges that timing, personalization, and context matter: for women under about age 60 or within 10 years of menopause onset, hormone therapy may carry fewer risks than previously assumed (Washington Post, 2025).
Why We Call This a Win for Women Everywhere-Help with Perimenopause
For too long, women’s health conversations have been driven by outdated data, stigma, and fear. This change recognizes that menopause is a natural stage of life—not a disorder—and that women deserve informed options to manage their symptoms safely and confidently.
This new guidance invites open dialogue between women and providers, with less stigma and more trust. It’s a long-overdue acknowledgment that “Your body. Your timeline. Your choices.”
What This Means for You-Managing Perimenopause Symptoms
If you’ve struggled with perimenopausal symptoms—hot flashes, disrupted sleep, mood shifts, or physical discomfort—this policy shift opens the door to exploring treatment options with fresh eyes.
If you’ve been unsure whether HRT was “worth the risk,” this is your moment to revisit that question with confidence.
If you’re in perimenopause or early menopause, timing matters—and you may be in the best window for safe, effective treatment.
This change doesn’t mean HRT is right for everyone—but it means you have permission to ask, learn, and decide for yourself with accurate information.
